History and Origin

J T DOOLEY CONTRACTING CC was founded by James (Jim) Thomas Dooley (now deceased) in 1987. He formed the company after his retirement from Office Design Contracts (a subsidiary of M&R), where he had a service record of twenty five years and held a directorship position.

Michael Thomas Dooley (the youngest of Jim’s four children) joined the firm after completing a Bsc Building Science at the University of Cape Town in 1989. Mike has progressed through all the structures of the company after being employed as a contracts manager in Barberton in 1990.

Peter Stoffel Segeel worked with Jim at ODC from 1979 to 1990. When Jim started JTD, he offered PS the position as QS, a position which PS took up in 1990. PS has held a membership in the company since 2005.

Mike Dooley

Managing Director

Mike has a Building Science degree (UCT) and over 30 years of experience. He joined his dad in 1991 when he was offered the position as Contracts Manager in Barberton. In 1999 he worked his way into a directorship and he continues – in a sometimes volatile market - to take the company from strength to strength.

Peter Segeel

Quantity Surveyor

Pete has been with the company since 1990, when he was head-hunted from Office Design Contracts. Recently retired as a director, Pete continues to add value as one of the most experienced QS’s in the industry.

Wilson Mabushe

Contracts Manager

Wilson joined the company in 1994 as a junior carpenter. He has worked his way up through the company to his current position as a Senior Contracts Manager. He is now a valuable part of the team, running various sized contracts in the building division.

Achmat Adams

Contracts Manager

Achmat has been a valuable member of the family for well over a decade. He is an extremely experienced Contracts Manager and is able to complete every job he managers on time and on budget.

Joseph Tembe

Contracts Manager

Another veteran of the company, Joseph joined as a carpenter in 1997. He is now a Contracts Manager and a favourite with the clients

Ernest Ngobeni

Senior Ceiling Erector

Ernest is a Senior Ceiling Erector who started with the company in 2004. He was trained by one of the best in the business – Mr Hugh White – and his skill and experience are highly valuable attributes in our ceiling division.

Debbie Dooley

Accountant
(BComm Unisa, BusAnal Diploma)

Debbie has 25 years of experience as a business analyst and accountant and with big corporates (Mossgas, Gardena, Investec) She has been involved in the family business for 12 years, initially assisting part-time with cost and management accounts. She took on a full-time position as financial accountant at the beginning of 2013.

Conrad Segeel

Payroll Manager and Administrator

Conrad acquired a BBA in Marketing Management before joining the company at the beginning of 2013. Like his father (Peter) he has become a valuable and irreplaceable member of the J T Dooley team, and he manages with extreme efficiency all payroll and staff matters.

Diane Ndlovu

Reception and Admin

Diane – our enthusiastic and efficient receptionist - joined the company in 1997 after some years as an invoicing clerk. With the support and encouragement of the company she has continued her studies, completing a Secretarial diploma and starting a Marketing Management diploma (which she will shortly complete)

Mark Leeming

PA, Office Manager
and Orders Manager

After immigrating from the UK in 1984, Mark has worked in a variety of industries including Mining, Hospitality and Retail. He has been with the company since 2005. Along with performing a range of duties as Mikes’ PA, he is responsible for all I.T. and Purchasing functions.

Walter Nyembe

Safety Officer and Driver

Walter was employed with us in 2008 as a labourer for ceiling work at SANTON CITY. He then moved to BHP BILLITON where - owing to his immense potential - was elected for training as a health and safety officer. His diplomas now include HEALTH AND SAFETY, Risk Assessing (HIRA), First Aid, Incident Investigator and Fire Inspector.
